Renowned defenseman Adam Fox is expected to return to the New York Rangers lineup for their game against the Detroit Red Wings at Madison Square Garden. Fox has been on the long-term injury reserve (LTIR) for ten games, the minimum required, following a lower-body injury.

The Norris Trophy recipient, awarded to the best defenseman in the NHL, has already racked up 11 points this season, including three goals and eight assists. Coach Peter Laviolette is enthusiastic about Fox's return, stating,

He's making plays. He's skating. He's been cleared to go full-go for whole days now.

Fox's Impact on the Rangers

During Fox's absence, the Rangers turned to Erik Gustafsson, who took his spot. Even so, the team managed to maintain a decent performance with a 26.9 percent success rate (7-for-26) with the man advantage. However, there is no denying that Fox's return will significantly boost the team's performance.

His teammate Ryan Lindgren expressed his excitement for Fox's return:

A superstar player, an all-star player, a guy we missed, and a leader for us. It's always huge when you get a guy like that back in the lineup, and I'm sure he's excited too.

Other Roster Changes

Besides Fox's anticipated comeback, other changes are occurring within the Rangers' roster. Forwards Kaapo Kakko and Filip Chytil were each placed on LTIR on Tuesday. The team also recalled forward Jonny Brodzinski from Hartford of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Brodzinski, who currently leads the AHL with 25 points, is expected to replace Kakko and assume his position as right wing on the third line. Meanwhile, Chytil's LTIR stint was retroactive to November 3 for salary cap and roster flexibility.

Despite these changes, the Rangers remain optimistic. Coach Laviolette shared,

We'll get him back at some point, which is good news. There was no setback there. It was more to clean up some room and make things available if we needed to make decisions or move. I hope he continues to progress.
