The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team in Newark, New Jersey. They are a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team was founded as the Kansas City Scouts in Kansas City, Missouri 1974. They later relocated to Denver in 1976 and were renamed the Colorado Rockies. In 1982, they moved to East Rutherford, New Jersey, and changed their name to the New Jersey Devils, named after the legendary Jersey Devil creature. For the first 25 years of their tenure in New Jersey, the Devils played their home games at the Brendan Byrne Arena, later renamed Continental Airlines Arena in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford. However, before the 2007-08 season, they moved to the Prudential Center in Newark. The team is owned and managed by Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), with Josh Harris and David Blitzer acquiring the team in 2013.
